General preparation
Metallic objects spoil the picture. To facilitate the best diagnosis and to avoid delays, you will be required to remove the following objects prior to your examination:
- Hairspray/gel
- Hairpins
- Jewelry
- Eyeglasses
- Makeup
- Hearing aid
- Removable dental work
For your Personal Safety:
Inform the MRI technologist if you have:
- Pacemaker
- Metal plate, pins or metallic implants.
- Ear implants
- Aneurysm clips
- Artificial heart valve
- Intrauterine device (IUD)
Abdomen and Abdomino-Pelvic MRI
- You are required to have nothing to eat or drink 8 hours prior to your appointment and examination.
- You are however, required to retain some fluid in your bladder until after the examination.

- You are allowed to have regular meals prior to your examination
- You are however, required to retain some fluid in your bladder until after the examination.

Sedation instructions
- If you are claustrophobic and require sedation, please discuss this need with your referring physician. Attend your appointment with the prescribed medication.
Please note: We do not provide medication for sedation - Persons requiring sedation to assist them through the examination should have nothing to eat or drink 4 hours prior to the appointment and examination.
- You are required to attend your appointment with the company of a responsible adult.

Children preparation
- Children who are 6 years old or younger are required to be sedated for the examination. Parents are strongly recommended to speak with the referring doctors to secure the medication for sedation.
- Children to be sedated should have nothing to eat or drink 4 hours prior to the examination.
- For examinations which are highly likely to require intravenous contrast injection, an IV access point should be created by the referring doctor.
